Backing
Up Your Data
No matter
what product you are using, whether it is QuikCalc, DebtCalc, Retire!,
VehiCalc or FirstResponse, it is very easy to backup your data. Simply
follow these steps:
- Close
all windows that are open in the program (don't forget the Solve for
Missing Number Calculator!). You should have a blank screen with only
menus showing.
- From
the File menu, select Backup Data File.
- Follow
the prompts on the screen. Note that your backup will NOT fit on a
floppy disk.
But what
if you want to backup your data automatically? If you have a third-party
backup program, you will need to tell it where your data file is.
- Run
your program.
- At the
login window where you are prompted for your user id and password,
press CTRL-SHIFT-D all at once. If you are using
a program without a login, go to the Help menu and select About. Press
CTRL-SHIFT-D.
- You
should see a window titled "MANUAL GENERATION - SYSTEM
INFO".
- At the
bottom of this window is a line, about 9 lines from the bottom, that
starts "Registry.LOCAL.dbq". This line
contains a directory and file name.
- Open
Windows Explorer and navigate to this directory.
Note that the "All Users" or "Application Data"
directories may be hidden. Typing the directory name directly into
Windows Explorer will allow you to navigate to this directory or you
can change your Explorer settings to allow you to view hidden directories.
- Once
you have found the directory, find the file with an "mdb"
extension that matches the file name from step #4.
- This
is the file you need to have your backup tool copy.
